Part 2: Connecting with Others

This week, get a sneak peek of Connecting with Others, part two of The Science of Happiness Program.

Connecting with Others

This section of the program may be a little challenging, as most people don’t go around thinking of their happiest memories on a day to day basis. These shared memories may come from different spaces and times in a person’s life, work, education, summer camp or family story. Be ready to take notes in your journal; this will help a great deal with your take action project.

Step 1- Savoring - Connect with a trusted adult, parent, caregiver, or counselor and share some of the things you’ve discovered about yourself throughout your Discovering Me process. Ask your trusted adult or caregiver ”what are some of the things that made them happy at any point in their lives?” Allow time and space for this conversation and ask them to share as much as they like. Ask permission to take notes for your journal to reflect on later. In your SOH (Science of Happiness) journal, take notes in the section titled “Time To Connect Step 1”. Use this sticker for your next section.

Using your stickers:

a. Use the “Things I have learned about others” sticker and place it on the next section of your journal.

b. Set aside 5-15 minutes to write down your thoughts about what your trusted adult has shared with you.

Step 2- Connect with a person or group of people that you don’t typically spend time with. Ask permission to spend some time with them and ask them to share some happy memories with you. Ask permission to take notes. Share with this person or group of people that you are completing steps for this program and you would like to gather as much information as possible for your take action project. In your SOH journal, take notes in the section titled “Time To Connect Step 2”.

Using your stickers:

a. Use the “Time To Connect Step 2” sticker and place it on the next page of your journal.

b. Set aside 5-15 minutes to write down your thoughts about what you have learned from this new person or group.
